Sri Lanka’s apparel industry is listed amongst the 50 most important suppliers in the world carrying the “Garments Without Guilt” and the “Made in Sri Lanka” labels. The USA and United Kingdom represent the most buyers of Sri Lankan apparels.
Sri Lanka is a sought after manufacturing destination for super-brands such as Nike, M&S, Crocodile, Next, Victoria’s Secret, Tommy Hilfiger to name a few. The local apparel industry account for almost 45 percent of Sri Lanka’s export revenue with approximately US$ 1 billion exports to the USA, and over US$1.5 billion to the European Union.
Sri Lanka’s total apparel revenue exceed US$ 5 billion annually. The industry employs more than 990,000 employees, and is constantly evolving to meet international standards and innovations. The industry is forecasted to grow to $8bn by 2025, a 62.5% increase.
